Verne Moore, 79, of Springville, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, surrounded by his family at his home. Visitation: 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Springville United Methodist Church, Springville. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service at the church. Burial: Wilcox Cemetery, Viola, with military honors provided by Springville America Legion Post #331.

Verne is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Dick (Jackie) Moore of Cedar Rapids, Frank (Roshiel Berger) Moore of Waubeek, and Sharon (Binoy) Jacob of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren, India Moore of Cedar Rapids, Angel (Matt) Emig of Springville, Buddy Moore of Springville, Elijah Jacob of Lakeland, Florida, and Noah Jacob of Lakeland, Florida; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Dale Moore; and aunt, Margaret Moore.

Verne was born on November 23, 1936, in Iowa City, the son of Merwyn and Mildred (Duncan) Moore. He graduated from Central City High School in 1954 and then attended Upper Iowa College. Verne served in the United States Army from 1959 - 1961, and was stationed in Germany. On November 30, 1963, in Central City, he married Mary Florence Marie Willard. He worked at Wilson Meats/Farmstead Foods meat packing plant in Cedar Rapids. Verne was a member of the Springville United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Iris and Day Lilly Society, and the American Legion.

Verne’s favorite place was his farm in Springville. He raised Chester White hogs for most of his life, then retired and became an outstanding gardener, excelling in growing beautiful day lilies. He was devoted to his family, and loved them dearly. He was the most humble and kind person you ever met. He will be sorely and deeply missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be directed to the family and will be donated to his favorite charities in memory of Verne.
