Verna Jordan, 79, of Swisher, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at home. Services: 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 5, 2010, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, by Rev. James Vrba. Family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Swisher American Legion at 4 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include her husband, Richard of Swisher; three children, Russell (Laura) Jordan of Redlands, California, Michael (Lorraine) Jordan, and Kurt (Peggy) Jordan, both of Swisher; seven grandchildren, Kimberly, Jason, Lisa, Jennifer, Christina, Nik, and Tarah; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Rheagan; a sister, Norma Klostermann of Dyersville; and sister-in-law, Elaine Fulton of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gilbert; and a sister, Helen.
Verna was born October 8, 1931, in Dyersville, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Amelia (Wessel) Neuhaus. She married Richard Albert Jordan on February 3, 1951, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Verna and Richard owned and operated “Jordan’s Tavern” in Swisher, Iowa, for 15 years.
Verna loved to cruise the Coralville reservoir on the family houseboat with friends and family. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling, supporting the Hawkeye’s and most of all being with family.
She was a good friend, very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and late in life, great-grandmother. She was dedicated to her family and them to her. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Verna wanted, along with her family, to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Cedar Rapids Mercy Hospice. The in home support they provided was professional and compassionate. Kay, Niki, and Sister Theresa were a godsend. Verna also wanted to thank all of the relatives and friends that came by to give her comfort.
