Verlin C. Hepker, 83, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Verlin was born July 19, 1934, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Carl and Eunice Hepker. At the age of sixteen he had his first Indian motorcycle. On November 18, 1955 he eloped with JoHanna M. Puckhaber in Wisconsin and passed away on their anniversary 62 years later. Verlin worked at Rockwell Collins as a N.C. Programmer for forty-four years. He enjoyed drag racing motor bikes on a National level and participating in cowboy “shoot out” reenactments. Verlin and JoHanna loved RV traveling, wintering in Nevada, and riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle. Over the years they affectionately became known as “Ma and Pa Hepker”. Verlin has a great sense of humor, was a quiet and soft spoken man and a devout Christian. He was a considerate man to others, and a loving husband and father.
Verlin is survived by his wife, JoHanna; sons, Wayne Hepker of Arizona and Calvin (Erin) Hepker of Washington; sister, Yvonne Skinner of California; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and his dogs Chips and Tiny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eunice; and his infant son, Rory Dean Hepker.
