Verda Voleta Sweet (Henderson)

Verda V. Sweet, 89, formerly of Central City, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion. Services: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at United Church of Christ, Central City by Pastor Mark Woldruff. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 6 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City.

Survivors include her son, Lawrence (Jean) Sweet of Central City; 4 grandchildren, Joey (Amanda) Barber of Monticello, Kimberly (Jason) Hartford of Central City, Lori (Rich) Hutchinson of Strawberry Point, and Gail (Steve) Morarie of Central City; 5 great-grandchildren, Derek, Val, Angel, Angie, and Dillen; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Madelyn; 3 brothers, LaVerne Henderson of Marion, Clifford Henderson, of Cedar Rapids, and Melvin Henderson of Central City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Anna Barber; 1 brother, Emery Henderson; and 2 sisters, Gladys Vocek and Charlotte Wilson.

Verda was born January 5, 1920, the daughter of John Clifford and Hazel (Smola) Henderson, in rural Central City, Iowa. She married Bertie Sweet on January 29, 1938 in Marion. He died February 28, 1990.
