Verda L. Roloff, 86, of 44 27th Avenue Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, March 14, 2008, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Mark Thomas. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, David (Pam) Roloff of Indianapolis, Indiana, Judy (Jerry) Zaruba of Cedar Rapids and Dennis (Jill) Roloff of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jerry, Jo Lynn, Julie, Jim, Jamie, Jennifer, Jessica and Josh; twelve great grandchildren; and one sister, Florence Roloff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Justa; and five brothers and sisters.
Verda was born February 12, 1922, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Francis (Speck) Meister. She lived most of her life in Cedar Rapids and worked for over 35 years for Wilson Packing Company.
Some of her joys included animals, working puzzles, gambling, playing cards, watching sports, especially softball, and her Mets. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always ready to help people out. Verda was a hard worker who enjoyed going to work at Wilson Packing Company each day.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Mercy Hospital and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for their loving care and to her niece, Rosalie Saylor.
She touched many hearts here on earth and now her soul will touch us from heaven.
