Vera J. Piispanen, 86, of 815 Owen Street N.W., died Monday, March 22, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathon Offt of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Roy; a daughter, Sharon Feiereisen of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Clarence Henderson and wife Cleo of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Elnora Dunn and husband Harvey of Phoenix, Arizona.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tawnya Evans and husband Kenneth Jr. of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and John Feiereisen and fiancée Rebecca Schloss of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Xavier and Mariah Evans; a sister in law, Ann Henderson of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ollie and George Henderson and a sister, Grace Henderson.
Vera was born the daughter of Fred and Jenny Ellen Penman Henderson on February 4, 1918, in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Roy Piispanen in May 1964, in Swisher. Vera was employed at National Oats. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a former member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Vera liked spending time and shopping with her family. Her joy was making Roy?s lunch in the big black lunch box. Vera was a great cookie baker and was a good friend to all. She will always be remembered for the unconditional love she shared with her family. She is greatly loved and will be missed by all.
