Vera M. Moore, 91, of Marion, formerly of Alburnett, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in Northbrook Manor Care, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Dr. Robert Kunz. The family will greet friends from 4 - 7 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, Rural Alburnett.
Survivors include her brother, Calvin (Chris) Moore, sister-in-law; Ardis Moore; 3 nieces, 5 great nieces and 4 great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Orlou (Stick) Moore, brother Wendell, nephew Richard and one brother and two sisters at an early age.
Vera was born September 8, 1917, the daughter of Elmer and Orlou (Stick) Moore, a resident of Marion for nearly 40 years. Vera was a graduate of Alburnett High School, received her teaching degree from Coe College and furthered her degree program at Iowa State Teacher’s College (University of Northern Iowa), Cedar Falls and University of Iowa, Iowa City.
For 15 years, she was a 1st and 2nd grade teacher, teaching at Alburnett, Dallas, Knoxville and Marion. She was employed in payroll and human resources at Wilson Foods for 28 years, prior to retirement in 1980. She was a member of the Marion Christian Church, where she was also a member of C.W.F., Marion Business Girls, All Church Singles, Wilson Retiree Club, FSB Silver Society and Charter and Lifetime member of Alburnett Community Historical Society.
