Vera Mae Grimm, 85, formerly of Mt. Vernon and more recently a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, died there Thursday, November 20, 2008 following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 20008 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, by Rev. Mark Gefaller. The family will greet friends from 9 ?" 11 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa.

Survivors include her children, Lewis Grimm of Marion, and Dr. Greig (Marcia) Grimm of Charles City; a brother, Ralph Jr. Howland of Idaho; a sister Barb (Don) Dalton of Florida; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve Grimm, and two brothers, Ray and Frank Howland.

Vera was born February 18, 1923, the daughter of Ralph and Cleora (Lary) Howland in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She loved her 2 dogs and making crafts with her grandchildren. Vera was very active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. She was also very active in many different volunteer programs, especially the food bank.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Vera’s name.
