Velva Moorman, 89, of Manchester died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Good Neighbor Home following a short illness.

Memorial Services will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. Family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Cremains will be scattered at a later date.

Velva was born May 1, 1919 in Manchester, the daughter of Eric and Jenny (Grapes) Pohlman. Velva attended rural school in Manchester and helped on the family farm. On February 11, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Moorman in Manchester.

Velva worked as a waitress for the original “Coffee Den”, Lovett and Davis Produce and sold Avon in Manchester for 36 years. Velva was a homemaker who babysat for area families. She enjoyed softball and played on the Manchester Redbird Ladies Softball League. She loved crossword and word finder puzzles, playing cards and bowling. Velva enjoyed baking and was a fantastic cook, making homemade fudge, noodles, pies and fried chicken.

Velva is survived by four children, Daryl (Sandy) Moorman of Opelika, AL, Georgia (Robin) Jones of Manchester, Roger (Sandy) Moorman of Lamont, and Bruce Moorman of Manchester; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Charles Irons of Cedar Rapids, and four sisters-in-law, Leona Pohlman of Manchester, Wilma “Babe” Davis and Dorothy Moorman both of Cedar Rapids and Viola “Buz” (Joe) Klein of Manchester.

Velva was preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Jenny Pohlman, her husband, Harold Moorman on November 29, 1998; a daughter, Janice Irons; grandsons, Eric Michael Moorman and Philip Moorman; siblings, Ervin, Ernie, John and Lloyd Pohlman, Edna Simons, Gladys Baxter, and Hester Pohlman.
