Velma E. Wright Michel

Velma E. Wright Michel, 92, of 2115 1st Avenue S.E., Cedar Rapids, died Friday, October 17, 2003, at Cottage Grove Place, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Howard Chapman. Friends may call Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Barker and husband Jack of Marion; and a son, Robert Wright and wife Ilene of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and a brother, Harold Bachman.
Velma was born the daughter of William and Alvina Hansen Bachman on April 29, 1911, in Stanwood. On August 26, 1933, she was united in marriage to Othol Wright. He died February 10, 1955. She married Ralph Michel on June 3, 1978. He died February 25, 1998. Velma worked as a legal secretary. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
Velma was a charming beautiful lady, with a witty, dry humor. She listened to her family and friends with an understanding heart and shared her wisdom and love freely.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
