Velma Addie Kacer, 96, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, August 16, 2007, in Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Beth Straw. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Ann Emanuel of Norway, Iowa; son Duane (Neoma) Starnes of Cedar Rapids; step daughter, Deb (Joe) Sindelar of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; four brothers; three sisters; three grandchildren, Rick and Nick Emanuel and Kathy Louise Starnes; and son-in-law, Richard Emanuel.
Velma was born August 28, 1910, in Center Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Grant and Anna (Knutson) Walton. On August 22, 1956, she married Charles Kacer in Cedar Rapids. He died February 23, 1970. She worked in food service for Penick Ford.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and the Eagles Auxiliary 2272 in Cedar Rapids of which she was an organizer. She was past state president of the state auxiliary, Woman of the Year for the Auxiliary, secretary of the Cedar Rapids Auxiliary for many years, led the Drill and Ritual team for the auxiliary and many other auxiliary organizations.
The two things most important to her were her family and her time with her husband, Chuck, traveling the country representing the Eagles organization.
