Velma Lois Hauser, 94, a resident of The Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, died there, Wednesday, April 9, 2003, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Jack Kendall. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.

Survivors include her sister, Faye Hauser of Cedar Rapids and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Gladys Houlzworth and Vera Martin.

Velma was born September 22, 1908, the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Quaas) Hauser in rural Alburnett, Iowa. She graduated with the class of 1926 from Alburnett High School and attended two summers at Coe College. She taught five years in rural one room schools. She then worked in the Linn County Relief Dept. and Higbee?s ready to wear store. Velma worked for many years at Kings Concrete, retiring in 1976. She was a life time member of Lafayette Salem United Methodist Church. Velma loved to sew and do hand work. She gave so freely of her time and talent having made scrap books and crocheted baby caps for both St. Luke?s and Mercy Hospitals for several years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of the donors choice in Velma?s memory.
