Velma Irene (Bowman) (Koehler) Hamdorf, 81, of Marion passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2016 at New Covenant Bible Church. Family will greet friends 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial: North Liberty Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan Hamdorf of Marion; her sister, Dorothy Hummer of California; her children, Rex (Mary) Hamdorf of Center Point, Gary (Pat) Kleinmeyer of Lone Tree, Terry (Kathleen) Kleinmeyer of Princeton, MN, Larry (Linda) Kleinmeyer of Shueyville, Jerry (Sue) Kleinmeyer of Toddville, and Connie (Bob) Tomkins of Cedar Rapids; also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jim Bowman.
Velma was born July 25, 1934 to John and Ordra (Moore) Bowman near Iowa City. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City. She married Kenneth Kleinmeyer in 1952, they later divorced. Velma then married Lloyd Koehler in 1979. After his passing in 2006, she married Harlan Hamdorf in 2013. Velma was a longtime and active member of New Covenant Church in Cedar Rapids. She loved to travel and golf. Golf was her passion and her family was her life.
