Velma Josephine Armstrong, 94, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be from 5 -7 p.m. Friday April 6, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, in Marion, conducted by Vicki Standley. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Please come and celebrate her life with family and friends.
Velma Armstrong is survived by her four children, Steve (Connie) Armstrong of Cedar Rapids, Sandy (Tom) McDonald of Albany, Oregon, Susan (Jim) Hurm of Lake Avon, Ohio, and Scott (Julie) Armstrong of Kilkenny, Minnesota; her sister, Karen White of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Richard Kleineck of Oxford Junction; her grandchildren, Cary, Jennifer, Andrea, Dan, Matt, Kyle, Jon, Edit, Jeremiah, Joshua and Amanda; and great grandchildren Ashley, Jacob, Gavin, Brandon, Paul, Sabrina, Landon, Jordan, Cyril James (CJ), Hunter, Xander, and Brogan.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Robert Kleineck; her husband, Charles Armstrong; her brother, Leonard Kleineck; her sister, Marilyn Haughenbury; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Armstrong.
Velma and her husband lived on farms near Springville and Walker, Iowa. After raising her four children, Velma returned to the St. Luke’s Operating Room as an RN. Upon retiring, she was a hospital volunteer. Velma spent half of her year in Marion, Iowa and the other half in Mesa, Arizona. She loved walking and ballroom dancing.
