Twila J. Holland, 91, a longtime resident of Marion, whom had been living with her daughter in Alburnett for the last seven months, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include her three children, Roberta Plate of Alburnett, David Bruce (Ophelia) Holland of Cobbtown, GA, and Douglas M. (Annie) Holland of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one half-brother, Robert (Virginia) Plummer of St. George, KS; and three half-sisters, Martha (John) Powers of Wamego, KS, Sandy Chandler of Manhattan, KS, and Kathy (Ken) Schneider of Manhattan, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Susan; two brothers; two sisters; and one half-brother.
Twila was born June 7, 1920 in Fostoria, KS, the daughter of Willard and Edith (Adams) Plummer. She graduated from a business college in Kansas and went on the work as a telegraph operator for a railroad company in Burlington, Iowa, where she met her husband, David. Twila married David J. Holland on May 10, 1942. He died September 10, 1987. Twila was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Family was the greatest treasure in Twila’s life, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established in Twila’s memory.
