Tuy Canh Nguyen, 70, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 8:24 AM.

Tuy was born June 20, 1950, in Binh Dinh, Vietnam, the son of Nguyen Canh Dieu and Tran Thi Tinh. In 1969, he spent a year in college before volunteering to join the Navy during the Vietnam War. At the age of 24, he spent 2 years training as an officer and became a 2nd Lieutenant. He worked for South Vietnam and the U.S. for 2 years, providing safety to the general, overseeing their “special forces,” and assisting with the management of 2,000 crew members. He was stationed at a U.S. base in DaNang, VN before he was offered passage to the U.S.

From 1975-1982, he spent time in Pennsylvania, New York, Texas and Kansas before settling down in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Tuyet Lien T. Pham in Wichita, Kansas and they have been married for 37 years. They raised and loved their eight children, and later became a grandfather to five grandchildren.

His interests included fishing, poker, football, BBQ’s, traveling, and quality time with his friends and family. He kept lots of memories by taking photos and developed his love for photography.

His main hobbies revolved around his love of music. Not only did he enjoy listening to music, he loved dancing, singing, karaoke, and playing many instruments. He sang and played his guitar daily.

As the sole provider of our family, he worked tirelessly for over 30 plus years at the local meat packing plant, Tyson Foods. He retired at the age of 65 in 2015.

Tuy was an honorable man, a dedicated soldier, a committed husband, and a loving father and grandfather.

He attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife, Tuyet-Lien Pham of Sioux City, Iowa; his eldest son, Thong Canh Nguyen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his 6 daughters, Trang Thuy Nguyen (Thomas Brian Bell) of Sioux City, Iowa; Julie Truc Thanh Nguyen (Rafael Alejandro Ramirez) of North Liberty, Iowa; Jamie Thao Thanh Nguyen (Phi Cong Luong) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jenny Tram Thuy Nguyen of Lilburn, Georgia; Jill Tien Thanh Nguyen of Iowa City, Iowa; Jane Tien Thuy Nguyen (Nathan William Ewing) of Aurora, Colorado; his youngest son, Jimmy Tung Canh Nguyen of North Liberty, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Emma Lily Ramirez, Shawn Spencer Ramirez, Natalie Rosalina Ramirez, Aiden Quoc Tien Nguyen, Romeo Huong Tuong Nguyen.

Memorial Services will be in Sioux City, Iowa at St. Joseph’s church on Sunday, June 20th, 2021 at 2 PM.
