Verla Toletha Franks Whitaker, 80, of Manchester entered into God’s hands on, Monday, July 30, 2012.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Manchester by Rev. Randy Pospisil. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and one hour prior to services, Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Toletha was born January 11, 1932, the daughter of George and Etta (Cooper) Franks in Wood Center, Iowa. She graduated from Randalia High School. On June 11, 1950, Toletha was united in marriage to Carl Whitaker at the United Methodist Church in Randalia, Iowa. To this union were born five children.
Toletha received her CNA and worked for the Delaware County Memorial Hospital as a Nurse’s aide and Home Care Aide for 25 years, where she was the first home health aide hired at the onset of that service. Toletha taught Sunday school for many years, was active in the church choir and was on the Christian Women’s Club Board. She enjoyed reading, watching birds, flowers, sewing, baking and loved her family.
Toletha is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl of Manchester; five children, Tony Whitaker of Iowa City, Debra (John) Clute of Ames, Jody (Houston) Holloway of Carrollton, TX, Chris (Dan) McDowell of Manchester, and DeAnn (Mark ) Hennigs of St. Joseph, MN; ten grandchildren, Khyle (Kristin) Clute, Kienan Clute, Casey Clute, Harris Holloway, Gretchen (Scott) Anderson, Jeromie (Bethany) McDowell, Racheal (Kyle) Nodurft, Jacob Hennigs, Erik Hennigs, Jared Hennigs; six great-grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Lucas, Mason, Adalyn, Sara, and one on the way; a sister, Geraldine (Dean) Winkie of Randalia,IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Toletha was preceded in death by her parents, George and Etta Franks; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Ruth Franks.
