Timothy “Tim” Turner Evans 80 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa (formerly of Solon, Iowa) passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday March 27, 2018. Tim was born at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on October 29, 1937, to Renald P. Evans and Virginia Turner Evans. He was married to Lorna (DeMott) in 1966, and later divorced.
Tim is survived by his daughter Kelli Evans and husband Heith Kessler of Cedar Rapids; son, Ryan and wife Jenny Evans of Shanghai, China; brother, Mike (Lynn) Evans; sister, Molly (Brian) Scott, all of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Tom (Julie) Evans of Idaho; grandsons, Dylan Dolezal of Denver, Colorado, Austin Holub of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Keegan Holub of Solon, Iowa, Jimmy of Shanghai, China and granddaughter, Lucy Kessler. He is also survived by a nephew, two nieces, their spouses and grand nephews and nieces.
Tim lived a full and enjoyable life and was adored by many. To know him was to truly love him. Tim had a special way of genuinely getting to know people and their life’s story. He never met a stranger and always had thoughtful encouragement and positive attributes in everyone. Tim was the most devoted father and grandfather. “Papa Tim” was his grandsons’ number one fan at all sporting, school and life events. He loved his family time, composing music, attending his grandsons’ events, playing harmonica, sketching portraits, hand writing notes, Cedar Rapids history, writing letters to the editor, and reminiscing with old friends on the phone.
Tim graduated from McKinley High School in 1956 and Coe College with a degree in Speech in 1961. He attended and graduated from Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science in 1967.
Tim’s great-grandfather started John B. Turner & Sons mortuary in 1888. He worked as a funeral director in the family business until the business was sold. He then went on to work in a successful career in sales.
In his earlier years, Tim learned to whistle at ten months old. He loved to sing, singing in the choir at Westminster Presbyterian Church and Harmony Hawks. He was also a former member of Rotary and Exchange Clubs.
Tim was preceded in death by both of his parents. Tim has chosen to be cremated and a private burial will take place at a later date.
Visitation will take place at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home at 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with funeral services on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church 1285 3rd Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids.
