Dr. Timothy “Tim” Robert Ruppert, 67, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024, at the funeral home, with Pastor Nick Grove officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Tim was born on July 19, 1957, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Reverend Robert and Margaret Jean (Bittner) Ruppert. He was the proud big brother of his little sisters Tami and Toni. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School, class of 1975, where he excelled in scholastics and the musical arts. He was one of two students selected in the state of Iowa for the National Collegiate Wind Band. He traveled Europe playing his trumpet in historical venues.
He obtained his bachelor's in biology and psychology from Cornell College in Mt Vernon, Iowa. He was named Outstanding Biology Student and graduated with honors in the class of 1979. He earned his master’s degree in counseling and human development from the University of Iowa in 1982. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in 1990 with highest honors summa cum laude. He dedicated 25 years to St Luke’s Hospital, specializing in marriage, family, and psychotherapy; helping others overcome mental health and behavioral issues and struggling family dynamics. After retiring, he worked as an adjunct professor teaching psychology and statistics, his two favorite subjects.
In 1983, Tim married Jennifer. During their 27 years of marriage, they had four daughters, Cassie, Amanda, Rachael, and Hallie. Tim was a proud father of each of his daughters. You would often see him cheering them on at school functions, visiting them at their local jobs, or telling anyone who would listen how excited he was of their achievements. As much as he loved his daughters, nothing could prepare him for the life of a grandpa. Papa adored his grandchildren and took them on many local adventures, building memories to last a lifetime.
On November 3, 2012, Tim was united in marriage to the love of his life, Svetlana "Lana" Aleksandrovna, at Sharon United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. The two moved to Kimberling City, Missouri where they enjoyed live shows in Branson, boat rides on Table Rock Lake, and learning about our country’s history. Tim and Lana were active members of the Kimberling City Methodist Church. Tim adored his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and enjoyed using his Godly gift of a beautiful tenor voice to bring others closer to Christ. His musical talents will forever be remembered and missed.
Tim is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Lana, daughters, Cassie (Jesse) Parcher, Amanda Ruppert, Rachael Ruppert, and Hallie (Isaac) Hunter; grandchildren, Zuly, Rylan, Maryn, Jonah, Bryant, Lennyn, and Holland; two sisters, Tami (Mike) Scherrman, and Toni Ruppert-Overton; two step-sons, Andrey (Yana) Antonova, and Dmitry Antonova; step-grandchildren, Karina, and Katya; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Ruppert.
Memorials in Tim’s memory may be directed to the family.
