Tim Lafrenz, 51, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, died at 13:13 on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Revs. Craig Brown and Steve Knudson. Family will greet friends from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Chris of Cedar Rapids; children, Mark Lafrenz at home, and Jenny Lafrenz at Iowa State University; parents, Marvin and Irina Lafrenz of Mitchellville, Iowa; sister and her husband, Tish and Mark Palmer of Bondurant, Iowa; and four nieces.
Tim was born on October 21, 1963, in Davenport, Iowa, son of Marvin and Irina (Laws) Lafrenz. He graduated from North Scott High School in Davenport in 1982, and then from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, in Industrial Technology in 1986. Tim was in the United States Army Reserve for 12 years where he became a First Lieutenant. He worked for DellaVedova Construction in Albia, Iowa, then became construction manager for Hy-Vee in 1990. On September 18, 1992, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tim married Christine Ann Pribyl. Later Tim worked for Taylor Ball Construction, Cedar Rapids, then he started his own construction business, JKL Construction, Lisbon, that is now known as AK Construction. Tim was a member of First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He played softball and volleyball. He collected coins, baseball cards, eagles, M&M figurines, monopoly games, Rubik’s Cubes and enjoyed playing video games. Tim was very involved with his children and enjoyed going to their activities.
