Thomas Patrick "Tom" Newcomb

Thomas P. Newcomb, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, November 23, 2013, at his home. Services: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Ivan Nienhaus. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Steve (Kim) Newcomb of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Lynda) Newcomb of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Patsy) Newcomb of Denver, Colorado, David (Julie) Newcomb of Cedar Rapids and Mary (Mark) Novak of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; grandchildren, Kyle, Corey (Jaci), Sarah (Garrett), Matt, Max, Mark (Pam), Megan (Doug) and Dirk (Karen); and six great grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Bette Spaight; and brothers, William and Roger Newcomb.
Born June 29, 1935, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tom was the son of Paul and Margaret (Metz) Newcomb. On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Toton at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She died December 4, 2011. For over 30 years, Tom worked for Quaker Oats. He drove for Aging Services of Linn County after retirement.
Tom was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Tom enjoyed bowling, golf and traveling.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom’s memory to Aging Services of Linn County or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
