Thomas W. Osborn, 56, best known as "The Maid-Rite Guy?, of 479 10th Street, Marion, died Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at his home, surrounded by family and friends after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2002, at Christ Community United Methodist Church in Marion by Rev. Dick Speight. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Ellie; two daughters, Teri (Bill) Houser and Nicole (Justin) Ashby, all of Marion; his sister, Sheryl (Bruce) Mall of Belle Plaine; two grandchildren, Chelsea Hope Houser and Payton Timothy Houser; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Don) Conway of Belle Plaine and Jane (Don) Thompson of Bradenton, Florida; and several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tom was born June 29, 1946, in Belle Plaine, the son of Lloyd and Claudine (Craig) Osborn. He graduated in 1964 from Belle Plaine High School. On July 22, 1966, he married Elaine "Ellie? Riley in Belle Plaine. For the past seventeen years, Tom, Ellie, and their two beautiful daughters owned and operated the Marion Maid-Rite restaurant. He and Ellie enjoyed wintering in Pharr, Texas, where they made many close friends. Tom loved woodcarving, playing cards, telling jokes and making people laugh; he had an infectious sense of humor. He was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church in Marion, Emmaus Community and was a member of the Marion City Council from 1988-1993.
Tom was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He achieved one of his lifelong goals by spoiling his wife, daughters and grandchildren rotten. Tom was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
