Thomas Franklyn McMillen, Sr., 82, a resident of Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, December 18, 2002, in the care center, following an extended illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2002, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Richard Ernst. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Tom (Sandy) McMillen of Cedar Rapids, John (Patty) McMillen of Cedar Rapids, Scott (Cindy) McMillen of Marion and Cindy (Don) Potter of Covington; eight grandchildren, Julie Smith, David McMillen, Jeff McMillen, Aaron McMillen, Lindsay Douglas, Jennifer Kuda, Jeremy Kuda and Christa McMillen; two step-grandchildren, Jim and Joe Baldridge; five great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Janice (Ken) Hook of Solon and Karen Miller of Ottumwa; a step-brother, L. Dean (Shirley) Redmon of Cedar Rapids; and his stepmother, Hazel Edmundson of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a daughter, Teri Lynne McMillen.

Born March 22, 1920, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Perry Moles and Ila Eakins McMillen, Frank married Doris Evelyn Loy on November 15, 1942, in Kirksville, Missouri. She died February 13, 2000, in Cedar Rapids. During World War II, Frank served with the U.S. Army 535th Heavy Maintenance and Ordinance Division, at Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed time spent with his army buddies from the 535th, and rarely missed their reunions. Frank was employed by Kwik Way Manufacturing in Marion for forty years, starting as a machinist and working up to plant manager. He also worked for thirteen years at Reliable Machine in Cedar Rapids.

Frank was a member of First Christian Church of Cedar Rapids; Mitzpah Lodge A.F. & A.M., and the Cedar Rapids Consistory. Frank loved working and spending time with his family. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
