Thomas E. Kriz, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Tom was born March 16, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Stanley Kriz and Helen (Mahan) Kriz Tedford. He graduated from Kennedy High School, Class of 1970. His early jobs included delivering newspapers and working as a cook at Bishop’s restaurant in downtown Cedar Rapids. Tom was united in marriage to Carol Johnson on October 7, 1972, at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Quaker Oats from 1972 until his retirement in 2012. Tom was a member of the Frist Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed walking, doing yard work, and reading the Bible. Tom loved taking his grandkids to Disney World.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Carol Kriz of Cedar Rapids; children, Brian (Dana) Kriz, Julie Earle, all of Cedar Rapids, and Kathryn (Brad) Zieser of Belle Plaine, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Haley, Spencer (Hailey), Morgan, Timothy, Sierra, Nathan, Nolan, and Ryan; his kittens, Gizmo and Peaches; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Kriz; mother and stepfather, Helen and Wilbert Tedford; and brother, Gerald “Jerry” Kriz.
