Thomas J. Griffith, 79, of 2410 Linwood St. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, November 22, 2003, following a brief illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Richard Hess. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. and Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Darlene; his children, Thomas (Pam) Griffith, Jr., Tim Griffith, Ted Griffith, Brenna Griffith, Barbara (Donald) McDonald, all of Cedar Rapids, and Beverly Griffith of Des Moines; fifteen grandchildren, Nathan, Nelson, Nell, Nyle, NaShay, Natalie, D.J., Christian, Aubrey, Jacy, Camden, Cullen, Taylor, Austin and Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Francis and John; and three sisters, Donna, Corrine and Shirley.
Thomas was born September 25, 1924, the son of Frank and Catherine Roach Griffith, in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the United States Army in the European Eastern Theater at Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland as a Medic with the 109th Medical Division during World War II. On June 23, 1956, he was united in marriage to Darlene Worrell in Solon, Iowa. Thomas owned and operated Acme Bookkeeping & Tax Service, a profession that he had done for 50 years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
