Thomas Boyd Butters, 68, of Central City, passed away from this life on Saturday, March 12, 2011, following a brief illness.

Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at United Church of Christ in Central City by Rev. Mark Woldruff. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church. Burial: Oakhill Cemetery, Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia; four daughters, Beth (Scott) Geguzis of Williamsburg, and children, Blake and Charley; Nichole (Jake) Carroll of Iowa City and children, Alyssa, Gabrielle and Grace; Rebecca Ives of Fairfield, and children Patrick, Kaley, and Jacob; and Julia Butters of Central City, and children, Sierra and Raylyn; one great-granddaughter, Ashley; and brothers, Clifford (Vicki) Butters and Barry (Donna) Butters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, B. Bebe Butterfield.

Boyd was born March 23, 1942, the son of Beverly H. and Bernita (Anderson) Butters. He married Carol Kersbergen, and later divorced. After graduating from Central City High School, Boyd attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. On January 26, 1980, Boyd was united in marriage to Marcia Werner at Wapello, Iowa. For the past 10 years, Boyd had been a teacher at the North Linn Consolidated School District. Boyd was well-known in Central City, having served in several civic areas, including church and city councils. He was a member of the United Church of Christ. Boyd was an avid Hawkeye fan and sports fan, and a person of strong opinions (and always willing to share them).

A memorial fund has been established in Boyd’s honor.
