Therese V. Gibbs, 78, of Earlville, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following complications of dementia.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville by Rev. Herbert Tegeler. Family will greet friends from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville where a Scripture Service begins at 7 p.m. and also after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.

Therese was born January 7, 1929 in Petersburg, the daughter of John and Irene (Koelker) Dingbaum. She grew up in Petersburg until her family moved to Earlville in 1943 where she worked at the Earlville Grill. On October 4, 1950 Therese was united in marriage to William “Bill” C. Gibbs at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville. The couple farmed south of Earlville on the family farm until 1986 when they retired and moved to Earlville.

Therese was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville where she belonged to the Guild. She volunteered as a reading lady at St. Joseph’s school for many years. Therese enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing cards and watching her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Therese is survived by eleven children, Linda (Lyle) Mensen of Earlville, Joyce (John) Bockenstedt of Strawberry Point, Randy (Judy) Gibbs of Marion, David Gibbs of Dyersville, Nancy (Greg) Preussner of Delhi, Calvin (Donna) Gibbs of Hopkinton, Duane (Vicki) Gibbs of Delhi, Joe (Joyce Meyers) Gibbs of Epworth, Russ Gibbs of Chicago, Ed (Gerene) Gibbs of Earlville and Carl Gibbs of Earlville; 24 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; four sisters, Veryl Voss of Guttenberg, Dorothy Maiers of Dyersville, Rita (John) Garside of Dubuque and Julie (Leo) Gerken of Independence; a brother, Lester (Virgie) Dingbaum of Manchester; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Dingbaum of Dyersville..

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Gibbs on December 13, 2003; her parents, John & Irene Dingbaum; a brother, Alver Dingbaum; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Langel Gibbs.

The family is requesting no flowers. Memorials may be directed to the Maquoketa Valley Dollars for Scholars.
