Theresa R. Schmickle, 97, of Walker, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at the Rehab Center of Lisbon, Lisbon, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, with Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Visitation: 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Parish Center. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa.
Theresa was born November 28, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Everett and Florene (Reilly) Wood. On August 15, 1958 Theresa married Verl Schmickle in Hazelton, Iowa. A homemaker, she devoted her time to raising their children. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Walker American Legion Auxiliary, both in Walker.
Theresa is survived by her children, James (Dorothy) Moore of Mt. Vernon, Everett (Margaret) Moore of Walker, Lois (Delwyn) Henry of Charles City, and Leo “Butch” Schmickle of Toddville; twelve grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Palvak of Moline, Illinois.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verl Schmickle; daughter, Patricia Parker and her husband Delton Parker; two grandsons, Robert Henry and Harry Parker; sisters, Delores Prucha, Henrietta Michael and Dorothy Pratt; brothers, LeRoy Wood, Joe Wood and Leo Wood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Walker Legion Auxiliary.
