Theresa Anne Howe, 83, 1490 Douglas Court died Saturday, April 2, 2005, in Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, as a result of a fall at her home. A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Marion. A luncheon will be served after the service. Mrs. Howe requested cremation upon her death, and there will be no visitation. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.
She is survived by her husband, John; two sons and a daughter, Jon (Jackie) Howe of Livermore, Colorado, Gordon (Cindy) Howe of Marion and Helen Lovelett of Taylor, Wisconsin; a brother, Vern Farley of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Howe was born in Ottumwa on December 9, 1921, to Emma (Cousins) Farley and Lawrence Milton Farley. The family moved to Marion in 1932 where her father was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. She graduated from Marion High School and later attended Cornell College, the University of Iowa and Cedar Rapids Business College. She was married to John M. Howe Jr. in Kahoka, Missouri on April 4, 1942. Both Mr. and Mrs. Howe served their country during World War II, Mrs. Howe joining the Women?s Auxiliary Army Corps in July, 1943.
After the war, Mrs. Howe was employed as an administrative assistant to executives at Collins Radio Company during the company?s rapid growth. Later in life she utilized her extensive knowledge of literature as an employee of B. Dalton Books, finally retiring from that company.
Mrs. Howe was a seventy-two year member of the First Baptist Church of Marion and served as church secretary for six years. She also, served as secretary for the church affiliated troop in the Boy Scouts of America. She was life-long lover of classical music and good books. In her later years she enjoyed swimming, quilting, knitting and card playing with family and friends.
