Theresa Mary Burkle
January 25, 1930 — April 1, 2018
Theresa (Feldmann) Burkle, 88, a resident of the Meadows Assisted Living, Manchester, formerly of Earlville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, April 1, 2018. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Earlville. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the church, where a Scripture Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville. Arrangements are in the care of Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville.
Theresa was born on January 25, 1930, the daughter of Anton and Isabella (Jaeger) Feldmann and was united in marriage to Leon Burkle on February 7, 1950.
They farmed near Ryan for 40 years where they raised their thirteen children. They retired in Earlville where they were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She cherished spending time with family, enjoyed playing cards, cooking for her family, sewing and gardening. She made quilts and rugs for each of her children and grandchildren. She preserved what she grew by canning and freezing so the family could enjoy wholesome meals.
She was a loving wife to Leon for 64 years and wonderful mother to Rita McGrane of Manchester; Lois Schulte of Watkins; Rose (Jerry) Dietzenbach of Calmar; Allen (Joyce) Burkle of Ryan; Diane Rabe of Blairstown; Barb (Joe) Geistkemper of Earlville; Kevin (Linda) Burkle of Coggon; Lisa (Steve) Carney of Cedar Rapids; Janice (Joe) Marbach of Ryan; Jane (Scott) Schlegel of Cedar Rapids; Mary (Greg) Lukefahr of Marion; Keith Burkle (Kathy Falconer) of Coggon; Amy (Jason) Center of Salem, OR; 43 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerome Feldmann; Floyd (Rita) Feldmann; Lester (Joan) Feldmann; Elmer (Dorothy) Feldmann; Dave (Sandy) Feldmann; Irv Feldmann; Tony (Joyce) Feldmann; Loras (Mary) Feldmann; Jerry (Barb) Feldmann; Dan (Barb) Feldmann; sister, Lavonne (Leander) Burkle and sister-in-law, Leanna Feldmann.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton & Isabella (Jaeger) Feldmann, her husband, Leon Burkle; brother, Paul Feldmann and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Feldmann; sons-in-law Kenny McGrane, Dale Schulte and Jerry Rabe; and great-grandchild, Travis Krapfl; and many tiny souls.
She will be remembered as a patient, hardworking, thoughtful and gentle woman who lived a life filled with prayer and devotion to her family.
