Theodore J. Rodenkirk, 76, of 1013 A Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, September 16, 2007, in Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, in Hiawatha, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2007, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Steven Rosonke. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 20, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids where a vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Burial: St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; children, Joseph (Denise) Rodenkirk of Cedar Rapids, Teresa (Pat) Kelsey of Oak Harbor, Washington, Mark (Patty) Rodenkirk of Cedar Rapids, Theodore (Kelly) Rodenkirk of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Sherry) Rodenkirk of Cedar Rapids, Gerald (Diane) Rodenkirk of Hiawatha, Hazel Tyler of Cedar Rapids and Margaret (Bill) Cronbaugh of Center Point; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Donald Rodenkirk of Cedar Rapids; and sisters, Rosemary Holland of Decorah and Hazel (William) Baxter of New Albin, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Matthew Tyler.
Theodore was born May 12, 1931, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Alm) Rodenkirk. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. On October 29, 1955, in Decorah Iowa, he married Charlotte Snitker. He worked as a boiler mechanic for Farmstead Foods for 22 years.
Theodore was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, and the P-3 Union. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.
