Theodore Armand Johnson, 80, of 116 Merryhill Lane, Ely, died Monday, February 21, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center following complications from injuries sustained in a fall. Services: 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 28, 2005, at St. John Lutheran Church, Ely, by Rev. Jeffrey E. Borgwardt. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Roger?s Grove Cemetery, Ely, with military honors by the St. Quentin Post #555, Ely American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his children, Julia (Don) Sturgeon of Ely, Jeff (Sue) Johnson of Marion, Jeannine (Bill) Prince of Dallas, Texas, and Jim (Julie) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Sharron, Suzy and Teddy Sturgeon, Lisa (Dan) Shaw and Danny Johnson, Mike, Katie, and J.J. Prince and Erin and Drew Johnson; two sisters, Esther Obrecht, of Thor, Iowa and Martha (Forrest) Durey of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Harold, Hod, Gene and Warren and one sister, June.

Ted was born December 28, 1924, in Fayette, Iowa, the son of James Conrad and Ina Lydia (Werk) Johnson. On November 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Shirley May Storm. Ted attended Upper Iowa University before serving in the Army during WWII in Europe. As Staff Sergeant with the 42nd Rainbow Division, he was awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star, 3 Battle Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. He received his BA (1948) and Juris Doctor (1951) from the University of Iowa. In 1984 he received an honorary Doctor of Business Administration from Upper Iowa University. Ted worked at Collins Radio Company and was co-founder and President of J-TEC Associates, Inc. serving as Chairman of the Board until retirement in 2004. He was an Eagle Scout, National President of Rainbow Division Veterans Association (1964-65), and Iowa Small Businessman of the Year in 1972. Ted served on the Iowa State Republican Central Committee, was co-chairman of Iowa Republican Convention and a delegate to National Republican Convention. He was appointed by the President as a Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business in 1986. From 1990-2001 Ted was Editor and Publisher, Upper Iowa University "Old Time Peacocks? Newsletter and was Judge Advocate of the Rainbow Division Veterans Association from 1987 until his death.
