Thelma F. Wood, 78, of Marion, died Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a long illness. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Mike Morgan. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Ronald B. Wood; three children, Kay (Dan) Ciha of Marion, Michael (JoAnn) Wood of Laguna Hills, California, and Debbie (Leon) Richardson of Lenoir City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jason (Lori) Ciha of Gilbert, Arizona, Carrie (Ryan) Mitchell of New Hartford, Brittainy (Josh) Davenport of Phoenix, Arizona, and Blair Wood of Laguna Hills, California; and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Lyall (GeorgeAnn) Taylor of Philomath, Oregon and Donald (Mary Alida) Taylor of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Steward of Cedar Rapids and Evelyn Taylor of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Cliff Taylor, Mike Taylor, and Gene Taylor; a sister Erva Gongwer; her step-mother, Janella Rauh; and three step-siblings.
Thelma was born July 30, 1930, the daughter of William and Rose (Mitchell) Taylor in Cedar Rapids. On October 10, 1948, she married Ronald B. Wood. Thelma worked as a classroom assistant for many years at Vernon Middle School.
Thelma was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Creative Artists. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed doing needlework and sewing. She doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma loved going on fishing trips and on trips to visit family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice in Thelma’s memory.
