Thelma Maxine Shelton, 68, of North Liberty, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Good News Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Thomas Osterkamp, Jr. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Davis Cemetery, rural Walker.
Survivors include her spouse, Gail Gilchrist; her children, Bob Shelton of Bussey, Michael (Kathy) Shelton of Ottumwa and Anntoinette (Todd) Olmstead of Geneva; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her siblings, Eva Kriegmeyer, Bill (Phyllis) Daugherty, both of Cedar Rapids, John (Wynona) Daugherty of Des Moines, Mary Mericle of Council Bluffs and Juanita Traxler of Ottumwa; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special kitty “Precious.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eva Marie (Rouse) Daugherty; and a brother, Guy Daugherty.
Thelma was born August 21, 1943, in Moulton, Iowa. She worked in various hospitals as a nursing assistant for 27 years. On October 11, 2009, Thelma married Gail Gilchrist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
