Thelma Popelka, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 8, 2011. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at All Saints Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father David O’Connor. A lunch will follow in the Social Hall. Inurnment: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, George; her children, Steven (Pam) Popelka of Charles City, Christine (Doyle) Reynolds of Davenport and Philip (Kathy) Popelka of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Dirk (Kelly), Aaron Reynolds, Carrie Reynolds-Nelson and Lindsay Reynolds; great grandchild; and two sisters, LaVerne (Chuck) Fisher of Cedar Rapids and Lorraine Snell of Fairfax.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; and nine siblings.
Thelma was born in Walford/Norway, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Boddicker) Schulte. On January 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to George Popelka. She worked for Armstrong’s Department Store for many years.
Thelma was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
She enjoyed her family, gardening, yard work and cooking.
