Thelma Marie Jackson, 88, a resident of Willow Gardens and formerly of 2465 3rd Avenue in Marion, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on July 20, 2009, trusting completely in the certainty of Heaven. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home in Marion, led by Thelma’s grandson, Rob Jackson. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Thelma was born July 17, 1921 in Clay City, Indiana, the daughter of Harry and Ruth Wellman. Thelma and her husband, Thomas, farmed for 27 years before moving to Marion where Tom worked for the Cedar Rapids Post Office until retiring. Thelma’s love of music was expressed by playing the piano and accompanying Tom as he sang. Her thriftiness was expressed in the multitude of canned goods she produced each year from Tom’s garden. Her favorite weekend activity was to go to garage sales with Tom and look for bargains. Thelma was always pleasant and had a ready smile for everyone. She was a favorite of the staff at Willow Gardens and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Thelma is survived by her children, Steven of Crestline, California, Shirley Hard of Phoenix, Arizona, Stanley of Hazelwood, Missouri, and Jerry of Ft. Myers, Florida; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosemary Crouse of Omaha, Nebraska; and her brother, Robert Wellman of Clay City, Indiana.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 64 years, Tom.
