Thea Fern Gorman 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery Mid-Way, Iowa.
Survivors include children, Alan (Dee), Tom and Gregg Gorman all of Cedar Rapids and Karla (Henry) Keyes of Cedar Rapids; sister, Betty Bowers of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Marjorie Bowers of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; step father, Merle Van Fossen; and brother, Charles Bowers.
Thea was born March 18, 1926, in Toddville, Iowa, daughter of Charles and Martha (Matheny) Bowers. She graduated from Toddville High school. Thea worked for Turners Microphone. In 1948 she married Harry D. Gorman, Jr. and they later divorced. After her children were older she worked for Klein Tools where she designed tool display boards. She retired in 1996. She played for the “Ding-a-Lings” a bell ringing group at the Garnett Place. Thea loved traveling with Betty, her flowers and gardening.
