Teresa Ann Martinek, 48, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 19, 2016. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion where a vigil service will begin at 3:45 p.m. Memorial Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Philip Thompson. Inurnment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her mother, Joyce; siblings, John (Kelly) Martinek, Timothy (Roxann) Martinek, and Jason (Sandra) Martinek; her niece and nephews, Joey, Calla, and Nathaniel Martinek; and her aunts and uncles, Eleanor (Robert) Hill, Sr., Ann Martinek (Florence), Mildred (George) Jacoby, Mark (Mary Lou) Martinek, Julius (Jeannie) Martinek, Daniel (Susan) Martinek, Janet (Barry) Smith, and Barbara (William) Burns.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, James; aunts and uncles, Valerian Martinek, James Martinek, Lillian Kruger, and Eileen McCallen.
Teresa was born September 21, 1967, the daughter of James and Joyce (McVay) Martinek in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Washington High School and Iowa State University. Teresa worked most recently at Michael’s in Cedar Rapids and previously worked at Mangelsen’s in Omaha as a fabric specialist. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Teresa loved to quilt; she designed and wrote quilt patterns and gave hand-made quilts to family and friends to mark special occasions. She enjoyed biking with her father and would be seen riding the trails with him. Teresa will be remembered for her great smile and infectious laugh. She cherished her niece and nephews. Teresa will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
