Tammy Joy Carolan, 55, of Center Point, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Hospice Unit of St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a year and half courageous battle with cancer. Visitation: 4 – 8 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, officiated by Father Mark Ressler. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Joseph of Center Point; daughters, Shannon (Matt) Kostuck of Madison, Wisconsin and Nicole (Jacob) Shimek of Swisher; grandchildren, Aiden, Isaac, Rory, and Jaxxon; parents, John and Judy “Rose Ann” Tietz of Marion; brother, Tim (Carol) Tietz of Hiawatha; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steve and Marilyn Carolan of Midway; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Craig (Tammy) Carolan of Ely, Phil (Sherry) Carolan of Center Point, Anne (Tim) Cook of Cedar Rapids, Amy (Stacy) Miller of Cedar Rapids, Rick (Leah) Carolan of Cedar Rapids, Sean (Brenda) Carolan of Robins, and Ben (Jill) Carolan of Robins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Tammy was born December 19, 1961, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Judy “Rose Ann” (Willert) Tietz. She graduated from Kennedy High School. Tammy was united in marriage to Joseph Carolan, on July 18, 1981. She worked as the secretary registrar of the Professional Development Department at Grant Wood AEA in Cedar Rapids for over 30 years. Tammy was a member of the Center Point-Urbana School board for two terms. She enjoyed attending sporting events that her daughters participated in and was involved with many family activities. Tammy enjoyed baking, especially sharing her sugar cookies for St. Patrick’s Day. She loved being with her family, especially time spent with her girls. Tammy always supported her family and friends, she wasn’t afraid to “keep you in line”.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Memorials will be distributed for educational purposes.
