Susan “Susie” E. (Fleming) Lucas, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Memorial Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa. A luncheon will follow burial at Asbury United Methodist Church at 350 27th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids.
Susie was born August 18, 1945, in Central City, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Leila (Taylor) Fleming. She grew up in the Lamont area. Susie met the love of her life, Jim Lucas. The couple married on July 1, 1964, in Marion, Iowa. Together they had one son, Johnny Ray (Michele) Lucas. Susie worked for many years at Wilson Foods. She also worked at SCI and Wells Fargo to name a few.
Susie enjoyed car rides and was a great lover of the outdoors. She enjoyed tending to her many flowers, plants, and collection of rocks. She had a quick wit and was known for being the peacekeeper. Susie was devoted to her beloved friends and family but her greatest loves in life were her son, granddaughter, Gabrielle, great-grandson, Collin; special niece, Karen; and all her wonderful neighbors.
Survivors include her son, Johnny Ray (Michele) Lucas of Cripple Creek, Colorado; granddaughter, Gabrielle (Cody) Soppe; and great-grandson, Collin Ray Soppe; siblings, Donna Smith of Anamosa, Iowa, Steven (Marsha) Fleming of Lamont, Doris (Howard) House of Manchester, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Donna Fleming and Mary Fleming; many nieces and nephews; and her loving great friends.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Lester, and Leila Fleming; husband, Jim Lucas; siblings, Catherine (Harold) Starry, Joe Fleming, Albert Fleming, and Duane Fleming.
