Susan “Susie” C. Cook, 57, of Manchester, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am on Friday, May 23, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Manchester, with Rev. Nick March officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday where there will be a 7:30 pm Scripture Service at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester; and for an hour before Mass on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Susie was born on June 19, 1950, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur J. & Delores F. (Diesberg) Stelken, Sr. She attended school at St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1968. On October 25, 1969, Susie was united in marriage to Al Cook at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. She worked in the Registration office of Upper Iowa University while Al attended school. In 1972, the couple moved to Manchester where Susie worked as a teller, and later the Marketing Director, for First State Bank. She was a partner in her husband’s business, Al Cook Electric Service.
Susie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the YCM Mother’s Club, both in Manchester. The couple enjoyed attending wrestling events and spending time with their children and granddaughter. Her family and friends were everything to her, especially her “circle of faith” family and friends. Her greatest joy the last two years was her granddaughter, Susie Funke.
Susie is survived by her husband, Al Cook of Manchester; a son, Aaron Cook of Cedar Falls; a daughter and her husband, Shannon & Kurt Funke of Manchester; a granddaughter, Susie Funke; her mother, Delores Stelken of Manchester; four sisters and their husbands, Judy & Larry Bowers of Marion, Janice & Gary Duggan of Marion, Pat & Mark Thomsen of Port Angeles, Washington, Sherri & Brad Clauson of Strawberry Point; three brothers and their wives, Dave Stelken of Cedar Rapids, Dan & Sandi Stelken of Manchester and Arthur & Fran Stelken, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; and her mother-in-law, Naomi Cook of Eugene, Oregon.
Susie was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Stelken, Sr. and by her father-in-law, Donald Cook.
