Susan L. Gray, 48, of Morrisville, North Carolina, formerly of Marion, died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at Duke University Hospitals in Durham, North Carolina. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Marion by Rev. Mike Morgan. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include her parents, Ray and Peg Pierce of Marion and Robert G. Lane of Ottumwa; a brother, Bob (Becky) Lane of Jacksonville, Illinois; a sister, RaeAnn "Pud? Pierce of Marion; her niece and nephew, Allison and Ryan Lane; her father-in-law, Jim Gray of Lincoln, Nebraska; three loving dogs, Marcey, Derby and Mover; and many, many, close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant brother, Mark Lane; and her grandparents, Charles and Mary Nupp, Earl and Anna Lane and Raymond Pierce, Sr.
Susan was born July 2, 1955 in Ottumwa. She graduated from Marion High School in 1973 and attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa. In June of 1978, she married David J. Gray. He died on June 13, 1997. Susan worked in Public Relations in Special Services for the American Kennel Club in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Susan loved sports, including the Iowa Hawkeyes and Dallas Cowboys. She was a dog-lover for many years. She is a member of many Kennel Clubs including the KCA (Keeshond Club of America). Susan was one of the most gentle, caring, loving and generous persons. Her family and her dogs were the central part of her life. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
