On Sunday April 28, 2019, Sue Anne Drew Verhille, age 57, passed away far too early. Sue was diagnosed with signet ring cell adenocarcinoma of the appendix. The family will host a visitation from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Parish Vigil Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. There will be a private family burial at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow Mass at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.

Sue was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on November 11, 1961, to Robert and Jessie Drew. She attended St. Jude's Elementary School and graduated from LaSalle High School in 1980. Sue learned hard work through the Drew family's retail sporting goods and toy departments at Killian's, where all of the family worked. She paid her way through her education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning a degree in Education with an endorsement in Special Education. Most of her working career, Sue taught 7th grade Special Education at Franklin Middle School in Cedar Rapids.

Sue married her husband, David Verhille on July 18, 1987. They raised four sons who she raised to be good men. In addition to Dave, Sue is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Daniel Verhille (fiancée, Alicia Kramme), Ben Verhille (fiancée, Maddy LeDoux), Andrew Verhille, and Robert M. Verhille; her mother, Jessie Drew Lefebure of Marion; sisters, Robin (Greg) Byers and Mary (Jeff) Weisinger; brother, Hal "Red" (Tina) Drew; and sister-in-law, Elisa Verhille.

Sue was preceded in death by her father, Bob Drew; father-in-law, Bob Verhille; mother-in-law, Betty Verhille; and brother-in-law, Jim Verhille.

Dave and Sue's families enjoyed being together, celebrating nearly every holiday together. Sue was always close to her nieces, nephews and their children. Aunt Sue will be missed by niece, Stacie Byers (her friend, Scott) and Stacie's daughter, Anna; Rob (Jill) Byers, and their children, Blake and Sadie; Grant (Whitney) Weisinger, and their children, Owen, Vada and Lana; and Drew (Tracy) Weisinger and their twin boys, Akron and Rylon, and daughter, Leighton.

Sue's life was dedicated to the Christian ideals of helping others. No rule was above the golden rule, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. Whether teaching Special Education, 4th Grade Religious Education, volunteering at the Marion Library bookstore, or inviting the entire golf team from Mt. Mercy for Thanksgiving and Easter celebrations, she felt a calling to make a difference in those lives she touched. No person who met Sue could say they felt unwelcome.

Anyone who met Sue could hear the smile in her voice and see it on her face. She was beautiful inside and out. Her infectious smile, and many times mischievous personality, can only be described as love. Her greatest legacy will always be her four boys and all of the people she touched. Sue's loving smile and beautiful personality will forever be missed and never forgotten.

Sue wanted to say a special thank you to her four boys and their fiancées, her sisters, Robin, Mary and Elisa, Stacie Byers, her many close friends, and friends in faith that provided great comfort to her. Thanks go out to Dr. Hassan and Dr. Wood, the staff at Hall Perrine Cancer Center and Mercy Medical Center, and the staff at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

Memorial gifts in Sue’s memory will benefit Hall Perrine Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids, Mercy Medical Foundation, the Willis Dady Homeless Shelter, and the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
