Stewart R. James

Stewart R. James, 84, of Martelle, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Per Stewart’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering will be held at Sally’s in Springville at a later date with inurnment at Olin Cemetery in Olin, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion is assisting the family.
Stewart was born on February 5, 1937, in Olin, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Velma (Kline) James. He graduated from Olin High School in 1955. Stewart served in the United States Navy from 1955 through 1960. On September 10, 1967, at the Methodist Church in Wyoming, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Janice “Jan” Hansen. Stewart was a member of the Local #308 Carpenter’s Union in Cedar Rapids and was a carpenter for over 35 years. He was also a member of Martelle United Methodist Church. Stewart had a great interest in train shows and loved to spend time at the family farm.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan of Martelle, Iowa; and two sons, Kevin of Palo, Iowa and Kent of Atkins, Iowa.
Stewart was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; 2 brothers-in-law, Bob and Denny Hansen; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
