Steven was born March 1, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Charles and Pauline (Larimer) Ziskovsky. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1970. Steven worked at Quaker Oats, National Oats, and Flame Room before working as a custodian for FBG Service Corporation for 30+ years.
Steven is survived by his brother, Gary Ziskovsky of Cedar Rapids, and his many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steven was the word “independence” personified. He was simple, straight-forward, and stubbornly set in purpose and resolve. So fiercely dedicated to his work as a custodian at FBG, he rarely, if ever, missed a day. He walked to and from his job several miles no matter the weather. It was at work where he found peace and solace from life’s worries and pain. Steven loved sports, movies, and exploring the city on foot. He was frugal to a fault, yet never missed a payment of a bill or tax, even if he thought it was outrageous or unfair. Outwardly serious, Steven possessed an inviting sense of humor and personable politeness that endeared him to all who knew him. Steve was truly the working man’s working man, and will be missed by family, friends, and those who remember a world dedicated to duty and honor.
