Steven Allen Sutliff, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, Saturday, November 4, 2006, after living with leukemia for nine years. Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Family will greet friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his parents, Floyd "Bud? and Wanda Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; Steve?s life partner, Teri Barnhart of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Corrine (David) Slagter of Oskaloosa; a brother, Ken Sutliff of Lisbon; his nieces and nephews, Brandon (Chelsea) Hess of Blakesburg, Iowa, Emily Slagter of Oskaloosa, Michael (Marcia) Sutliff and their children, Austin and Lauren of Lone Tree, Colorado, and Laurie Sutliff of New Castle, Colorado; Teri?s daughter, Rachel Mascarella of Bartlett, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; and a brother, Larry.
Steve was born February 1, 1945, the son of Harold and Wanda Leigh Sutliff, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He spent his childhood in Lisbon until he moved to Cedar Rapids in 1960. Steve graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963 and began to work for the Wilson Packing House. From 1965 to 1967, he served with the United States Army Military Police and was stationed in France. In 1968, Steve started his electrical apprenticeship. He was one of the electricians who helped build the great Alaskan Pipeline project from 1975 to 1977. He returned to Cedar Rapids in 1978 and worked for Munson Electric at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 2005. Steve was a 37-year member of the IBEW 405.
Steve loved the outdoors, especially hunting, kayaking, boating and target shooting. He enjoyed riding his Harley, bicycling on the trails and dancing. Steve loved being with his family and friends, especially, Teri, where they enjoyed listening to the Iowa games while boating on the Cedar River.
