Steven Lee Shaeffer, 74, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Kelley, Iowa and Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 12 p.m., Thursday, at the church, conducted by Pastor Mark Halvorson. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

Steven was born March 5, 1944, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Frank and Lois (Martin) Shaeffer. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1962, attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, from 1962 – 1964, then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, from 1964 – 1966, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. On August 5, 1967, in Alleman, Iowa, Steven was united in marriage to Jane Schonhorst. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Steven was employed with West Delaware Schools as an educator from 1970 until retiring in 2000. He was a member of the King of Kings Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #298. Steven enjoyed doing woodworking, playing cards and games, and loved watching Iowa college teams play. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Steven will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Jane Shaeffer of Marion; son, Todd (Theresa) Shaeffer of De Forest, Wisconsin; daughters, Debra Pasker (Brice Janssens) of Cedar Rapids, and Jennifer Shaeffer (Chad Chopard), of Marion; grandchildren, Cortney Pasker, Carly (Wes) Meyer and Kyle Pasker, and Brooke and Sarah Shaeffer; one brother, Tom (Sharon) Shaeffer of Huxley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Beverly Shaeffer of Huxley; and many nieces and nephews.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Shaeffer.
