Steven Robert Ball, 64, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, June 17th, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Maranatha Bible Church, Cedar Rapids, with viewing one hour prior to service. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday June 24, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Coleen Ball of Cedar Rapids; mother, Edith Ball of Dubuque; 3 sons, Michael (Kim) Ball of Santa Clarita, CA, Marc (Alia) Ball, and Matthew (Joy) Ball all of Roseville, CA; 3 step sons, Jacob (Nora) Wilwert of Shreveport, LA, Luke (Erin) Wilwert of Waxhaw, NC, and Lee Wilwert of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren, his 3 sisters, Kristene (Jerry) Kieffer, Gayla (John) Roarig all of Dubuque, and Stacey Ball MacNider of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father, Robert Ball; brother, Thomas Ball; and stepdaughter, Jill Wilwert.
Steve was born January 10, 1951, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Robert and Edith (Trumm) Ball. He attended Senior High School in Dubuque followed by tech school in Des Moines. Steve married Susan Ginter in February of 1973. They later divorced. He then married Coleen Kimberlin on August, 30, 1997, in Cedar Rapids. Steve retired from Rockwell Collins as an electrical engineer.
He was a longstanding member of Maranatha Bible church. His Christian faith and family at Maranatha Bible Church were a big part of his life. He was blessed with the “gift” of being a handy man and enjoyed helping his family, friends and neighbors. Steve loved playing softball throughout his life and also enjoyed pheasant hunting. He was an avid Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
