Steve Fairbanks, 77, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at home, after fighting courageously for three and a half years with glioblastoma brain cancer. Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Full military honors by the Marion American Legion and Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail will begin at 4 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.
Steve was born on September 3, 1947, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Stuart and Wauneta (Moore) Fairbanks. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On July 5, 2024, after 36 years together, Steve married Karen Weber at Lowe Park in Marion. Steve retired from Rockwell Collins in 2015. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, sitting outside by the firepit, the Iowa State Cyclones, and Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed trips to the casino (even though he donated). Steve also enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandson. He was extremely proud of them. Steve will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Steve is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Karen Weber of Marion; two sons, Brandon (Jennifer) Fairbanks, and Brion (Tia) Fairbanks; daughter, Brook Fairbanks; grandsons, Tylor, Caleb, and Cory; granddaughters, Kylie, Peyton, Lyllian; great-grandson, Waylon; in-laws, Larry (Mary) Weber, Jerry (Cindy) Weber, Dan (Pam) Weber, Dave (Cindy) Weber, Patty (Mark) Rodenkirk, Kay (Kerry) Sternhagen, and Kathy Stelken; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stu and Wauneta; Bob and Shirley Weber; and brother-in-law, Jim Stelken.
