Steve was born December 21, 1962, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the son of James and Georgie (Wooten) Melson. He was united in marriage to Cindy Ann Miller on October 21, 2000, in Cedar Rapids. Throughout his life, Steve took on many roles. He worked as the head chef at Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids, spent time as an over-the-road truck driver, and dedicated 10 years as an assistant manager at Wehrenberg Theatres. He was also a devoted member of the Church of God Prophecy.
Steve had a passion for riding motorcycles, especially when cruising alongside his sister, PJ. A loyal Iowa Hawkeyes football fan, he stood by the team through every season, even the not-so-great ones. He also loved watching WWE, with Roman Reigns always being his favorite. Above all, Steve cherished his family. He always put their needs before his own and found his greatest joy in spending time with his sister, children, and grandchildren. Those moments were never taken for granted and were the source of his greatest happiness.
Survivors include his children, Melissa (Dani), Ryan (Alex), Tiffany, and Jamie (Aaron), all of Cedar Rapids; sister, PJ (Cindy) Schulze of Maine; grandchildren, Kandice, Jareth, Caleb, and Skyler; and nephew, Dustin (Laura) Schulze of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Georgie Melson; and his wife, Cindy in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve’s name to a local food bank.
